Bolivia 1798-PTS PP escudo
This specimen was lot 858 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $930. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, gold bust 1 escudo, Charles IV, 1798 PP, rare, NGC VF 25, finest known in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Sharp full rims with traces of luster in legends (hence more like softly struck XF in our opinion), the bust clearly re-punched ("doubled-die" error, not noted on label). Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." This type is very scarce as is most colonial gold from Bolivia. Some of the later dates have recorded mintages under a thousand.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
