Bolivia 1790-PTS PR real
This specimen was lot 71302 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Real, 1790-PTS PR. Potosi Mint. Charles IV. PCGS MS-63. Minty and full of luster, this minor displays an intricately detailed portrait and crowned arms. The surfaces are deeply toned with brilliant iridescence around the rims. An attractive and remarkably original example. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was struck 1789-91 in the name of Charles IV but with the bust of the deceased Charles III. Charles IV's proper bust was introduced in 1792.
