Künker Auction 441, lot 4743

This specimen was lot 4743 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,651 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Die Stände von Böhmen und Mähren, 1619-1620. Kipper-12 Kreuzer 1619, Kuttenberg. Münzmeister Sebastian Hölzl. Dietiker 568; Halacka 579. R Feine Patina, sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. Exemplar der Auktion H. D. Rauch 27, Wien 1981, Nr. 2342. (Holy Roman Empire, Bohemian and Moravian Estates, 1619-20, kipper twelve kreuzer of 1619, Kuttenberg mint. Rare, fine patina, very fine.)"

The Bohemian Estates were the group of Czech Protestant nobility rebelling against Hapsburg policies of centralization and Counterreformation. The Estates' army was defeated at the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 and the rebels scattered and exiled. Meanwhile, kipper twelve kreuzer were struck at three mints: KM 222 (Prague, mintmark star over crescent), KM 223 (Kuttenberg, mintmark six pointed star, shown here), KM 224 (Joachimsthal, mintmark lion's head left).
