Künker sale 406, lot 4461

This specimen was lot 4461 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Rudolf II. 1576-1612. Reichstaler 1590, Kuttenberg. Münzmeister Jirí Satný von Olivet. Hübsche Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Austria, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1590, Kuttenberg mint. Handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1578-1602; the issues of 1601-02 are catalogued as Dav-3023. The auction records show examples for nearly all the dates with none predominating. The Kuttenberg or Kutná Hora mint in Bohemia was an important producer of coin until it was wrecked during the Thirty Years War.
