Sincona sale 64, lot 3147

This specimen was lot 3147 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$627 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, Halbbatzen 1777, Bern. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich-FDC. (city and canton of Bern, half batzen of 1777, Bern mint. Very rare date, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This issue was struck 1718-21, 1753-55, 1770-78, 1784-88, 1794-98. Most dates are common tho this one is rare. At the time, four kreuzer = one batzen and forty batzen = one thaler.

Specification: billon, 23 mm diameter, this specimen 1.92 g.
