Bern 1784 2 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3199 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton. Halbbatzen 1784, Bern. Seltener Jahrgang. Schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, city and canton of Bern, half batzen of 1784, Bern mint. Rare date, Fine-very fine.)"
Bern, one of the cantons of Switzerland, struck coins fairly steadily throughout the eighteenth century altho thalers are scarce. The coinage was interrupted by Napoleonic occupation but resumed in 1817. This type was struck 1719-21, 1753-55, 1770-78, 1784-88, 1794-98. Two kreuzer = half a batzen = 1/80 thaler.
