Sincona sale 59, lot 3054

This specimen was lot 3054 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$636 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, Halbbatzen 1754, Bern. Wappenfelder schraffiert. Seltene Variante. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, half batzen of 1754, Bern mint, cross hatching in the coat of arms. Rare variety, Good extremely fine.)"

This issue was struck 1718-21, 1753-55, 1770-78, 1784-88, 1794-98. Most dates are common. At the time, four kreuzer = one batzen and forty batzen = one thaler.
