This specimen was lot 42279 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Bengal Presidency. Rupee, "Year 45" (ca. 1820-31). Calcutta Mint. NGC MS-65+." This type was struck with a frozen date. While the Mughal Empire lasted, the British in Bengal were careful to strike coinage in the emperor's name. Only the coppers showed the arms of the East India Company. The date should read "۴۵".
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 11.68 g, 0.909 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-70; Prid-320.
