This specimen was lot 3949 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €34,000 (about US$44,612 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1806 KONIGREICH, Ludwig I. 1825-1848. Goldabschlag von den Stempeln des Doppelgulden 1845. Hergestellt im Jahr 1902 für den Sammler Ferrari. LUDWIG I KŒNIG - VON BAYERN Kopf r. darunter C. VOIGT (Carl Friedrich Voigt, Stempelschneider in München ab 1829)//Zwei nach außen blickende, gekrönte und doppelschwänzige Löwen halten das gekrönte bayerische Wappenschild auf Postament, oben herum ZWEY GULDEN, unten die Jahreszahl 1845. Rand mit vertieften Vierecken und mit Punze 1902. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 63+ (6437516-005). GOLD. Von allergrößter Seltenheit. Prachtexemplar mit feiner Goldtönung. This type was struck 1845-48 and is common. This off-metal mint sport is, of course, extremely rare.
Recorded mintage: regular issue 883,308 plus a few off-metal strikes.
