This specimen was lot 599 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,467.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. 2 Taler, 1845. NGC MS-65. Finest certified specimen. Chancellor Baron von Kreittmeyer commemorative. Varied iridescent toning and sharply struck. Great eye appeal. From the Rockaway Collection." In addition to this commemorative, the regular issue (Dav-589) and another marking the birth of price Ludwig (Dav-593) were also emitted. This is the scarcest of the three.
