Ponterio sale 169, lot 10291

The first specimen was lot 10291 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $294. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. Taler, 1827. Commemorative of the founding of the Order of Ludwig. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder." Three different commemorative thalers were issued for 1827, of which this is the less common. A similar thaler (Dav-561) was issued for the founding of the Theresien Order by the queen the same year.
