This specimen was lot 3616 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $481.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. Taler, 1826. NGC MS-62. Reverse inscription commemorates the relocation of the Ludwig Maximilian University from Landshut to Munich (MUNCHEN). Attractive, multicolored toning. Lustrous surfaces and nice details. From the Rockaway Collection." The 1830's saw a gush of commemoratives in Bavaria on significant and insignificant topics. This one noted the removal of the university from Landshut to Munich. The fineness was lowered from .868 to .833 in 1827.
