Sincona sale 59, lot 3042

This specimen was lot 3042 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$1,030 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bistum Basel, Joseph Sigismund von Roggenbach, 1782-1793. 24 Kreuzer 1788, Pruntrut. Schräg gerippter Rand. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. (Switzerland, bishopric of Basel, Joseph Sigismund of Roggenbach, 1782-93, twenty-four kreuzer of 1788, Pruntrut mint, obliquely reeded edge. Rare in this condition, About uncirculated.)"

The bishop of Basel was driven from his seat when Basel turned Protestant during the Reformation. He resided in Pruntrut and issued coins from there. This type was struck 1788 only.
