Sincona sale 98, lot 4072

This specimen was lot 4072 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$544 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bistum Basel, Joseph Sigismund von Roggenbach, 1782-1793. 12 Kreuzer 1787, Pruntrut. Schräg gerippter Rand. Vorzüglich-FDC. Hübsche Patina. (Switzerland, bishopric of Basel, Joseph Sigismund of Roggenbach, 1782-93, twelve kreuzer of 1787, Pruntrut mint, obliquely reeded edge. About Mint State, Attractively toned.)"

The bishop of Basel was driven from his seat when Basel turned Protestant during the Reformation. He resided in Pruntrut and issued coins from there. This type was struck 1786-88 with the 1788 being the most available date. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer.
