Barcelona 1625 1/2 trentin
This specimen was lot 804 in Aureo sale 291 (Barcelona, April 2017), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,540 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1625. Felipe III (IV). Barcelona. 1/2 trentí. Anv.: FERNANDVS ELISABET D G RGS. Rev.: SVBVMBRA ALAR TVA 1625. Estrella de seis puntas sobre y entre los bustos. Los dos últimos dígitos de la fecha están hechos con punzones de las letras Z y S. Ligera doble acuñación. Muy rara. MBC. (Barcelona, Philip IV, half trentin of 1625. Obverse: opposed busts of Ferdinand and Isabella, star between; reverse: crowned arms, date written '16ZS' Lightly double struck, very rare, very fine.)"
The trentin, a gold coin peculiar to Barcelona, was struck without dates 1598-1621 and with dates 1622-33. The half trentin shown here was also struck undated and 1623-32. Both are rare.
