This specimen was lot 5296 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,062 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BADEN, BADEN-DURLACH, MARKGRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1806 Grossherzogtum, Ludwig, 1818-1830. Kronentaler 1819. Mit Signatur "DOELL" am Halsabschnitt. Kräftige Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Louis, 1818-30, crown thaler of 1819, with signature on the truncation of the bust. Strongly toned, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The kronenthaler was an Austrian standard, first issued in 1757 for Belgium, that was slightly heavier than the convention thaler. This type was struck 1819-21. Thalers exist without the engraver's signature and are worth substantially more.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 29.48 g, 0.872 fine silver, this specimen 29.47 g.
