This specimen was lot 26537 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $311.38. The catalog description[1] noted, "Franz Joseph I gold Ducat 1871-A, AU, bright gold with ample remaining luster." This type was struck 1867-72 only but is common. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types. This date is known from Vienna only.

Recorded mintage: 669,960, common.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, 19.8 mm diameter.
