Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 53672

This specimen was lot 53672 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $630. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Ducat, 1861-A. Vienna Mint. Franz Joseph. NGC MS-62. From the Augustana Collection." This type was struck 1860-65 only but is common. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types. This date is known from Vienna, Kremnitz, Venice and Karlsburg.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 19.8 mm diameter.
