Künker sale 264, lot 3515

This specimen was lot 3515 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €340 (about US$439 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Franz Josef I. 1848-1916. Dukat 1862, A, Wien. 3,44 g Feingold. GOLD. Vorzüglich. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ducat of 1862, Vienna mint, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1860-65 only but is common. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types. This date is known from Vienna, Kremnitz, Venice and Karlsburg.

Recorded mintage: 1,204,020, common.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 19.8 mm diameter.
