Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 46041
SB825-46041r.jpg

This specimen was lot 46041 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Mint Error -- Double Struck -- 7 Kreuzer, 1802-A. Franz II. NGC MS-64." This type was struck 1802 only at mints A (Vienna, shown here), B, C, E, F and G. It is too common to have been made all in one year, so perhaps it was struck with a frozen date for several years. In this period, Austria was losing wars with Napoleon and was in desperate financial straits and many expedients were tried.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.68 g, 0.250 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-2129.
