Austria 1765 thaler Dav-1122
This specimen was lot 3038 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$201 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RDR/ÖSTERREICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780 Konventionstaler 1765. Hall. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia (1740-80), convention thaler of 1765, Hall mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This thaler was issued 1754-65 at Hall and is common. Maria Theresia's husband, Francis of Lorraine, died in 1765 and she is depicted thereafter wearing a widow's veil. The convention thaler, adopted in the 1750's, was 28.06 g, 0.833 fine, whereas earlier types were 28.82 g, 0.875 fine.
