Sincona sale 101, lot 3293

This specimen was lot 3293 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$490 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Konventionstaler 1756, Hall. Brustbild mit römischem Harnisch. Selten. Vorzüglich. Feine Patina. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half convention thaler of 1756 [sic], Hall mint. Obverse: armored bust. Rare, Extremely Fine, Nicely toned, Minor flan flaw.)"

We note several Austrian half thalers for 1765, including KM 1821 ("ARCHID•AUST•DUX BU•COM•" on reverse, shown here, struck 1756-65), KM 1822 (Vienna mint, "ARCHID•AUST•DUX• BURG•", struck 1758-65) and KM 2036 (Francis I). After 1765, when Francis I died, all of Maria Theresia's coinage adopted a veiled bust of the empress.
