Sincona sale 34, lot 4345

This specimen was lot 4345 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$594 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780 Taler 1765. Wien Ausbeute der Grube St. Anna in Niederösterreich. Brustbild mit Diadem nach r. Rv. Gekrönter, nimbierter Doppeladler mit gekröntem Wappenschild auf der Brust, darunter zwei gekreuzte Schlägel. Selten. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. Henkelspur. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, thaler of 1765, Vienna mint, for the St. Anne mine in lower Austria. Obverse: Diademed bust to right; reverse: crowned, nimbate double headed eagle with crowned arms on breast, two crossed hammers below. Rare, Almost extremely fine-extremely fine, Trace of mounting.)"

This type of 1758 and 1765 is scarce to rare; Austria issued few mining thalers, which were much more popular in Brunswick and Saxony.
