Künker sale 423, lot 196

This specimen was lot 196 in Künker Auction 423 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €180 (about US$255 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Franz I., 1745-1765. 6 Kreuzer 1748 H-A, Hall. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz, umgelegtem Mantel und der Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Kopfscheinen und Schwert und Zepter in den Fängen, auf der Brust gekröntes zweifeldiges Wappen (Lothringen-Toskana), umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, zu den Seiten die geteilte Münzstättensignatur H - A. Kl. Randfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Auktion Lanz 139, München 2007, Nr. 847. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis I, 1745-65, six kreuzer of 1748, Hall mint. Obverse: armored, mantled and laureate bust with Order chain; reverse: crowned and nimbate double-headed eagle with sword and scepter in its claws, supporting the impaled arms of Lorraine and Tuscany, mintmark below. Slight edge defect, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck in substantial numbers 1747-48 at Hall (shown here), Prague and Vienna. The mintage figure below includes some struck with the bust of Francis' wife, Maria Theresia (KM 2020).

Recorded mintage: 550,000 including KM 2020 (bust of Maria Theresia).
