Austria 1706 ducat Fr-333
This specimen was lot 1023 in Jean Elsen sale 111 (Brussels, December 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"SAINT EMPIRE, Joseph Ier (1705-1711), AV ducat, 1706, Vienne. Droit : B. l., drapé et cuirassé à droite, coiffé d'une grande perruque. Revers : Aigle impériale couronnée, avec l'écu d'Autriche sur la poitrine. Rare. presque Superbe. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph I (1705-11), gold ducat of 1706, Vienna mint. Obverse: Laureate bust, draped and armored, to right, in large wig; reverse: crowned imperial eagle with arms of Austria on its breast. Rare, nearly extremely fine.)"
This ducat was issued at Vienna 1705-11 and is a common date. Other mints issuing ducats during the reign of Joseph I include Graz (KM 1471), Brieg (KM 190), Breslau (KM 132), Augsburg (KM 135), Munich (KM 1186) and Saint Veit (KM 1669), not all of which were actually within the Hapsburg dominions.
