Austria 1687-IAN thaler Dav-3232
This specimen was lot 4553 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. Reichstaler 1687 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1684 geändert), IAN, Graz. Herrliche Patina, winz. Randfehler, min. berieben, vorzüglich +. (Austria, Leopold I, 1657-1705, thaler of 1687, Graz mint, 1687/4 overdate. Superb patina, edge defects, lightly polished, extremely fine or better.)"
This type was struck at Graz 1671-78, 1682, 1684, 1687-88 and is common. Overdates are common from this mint. The accompanying double thaler (Dav-A3232) appears from time to time.
