Künker sale 354, lot 5972

This specimen was lot 5972 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,531 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. Reichstaler 1678 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1678 geändert), IAN, Graz. Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, min. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, thaler of 1678, Graz mint. Attractive example with handsome patina, minor edge defects, extremely fine.)"

The type was struck 1671-78, 1682-88 and is reasonably available. Similar double thalers (Dav-A3232) exist.
