Sincona sale 23, lot 3007

This specimen was lot 3007 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,135 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705 Doppeltaler 1678. Graz. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I (1657-1705), double thaler of 1678, Graz mint, choice extremely fine.)"

The type was struck 1670-84 and despite the six dates known, is rarer than many other Austrian double thalers.
