Sincona sale 101, lot 3208

This specimen was lot 3208 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Erzherzog Leopold V. 1619-1632. Kippergulden zu 60 Kreuzer 1621, Hall. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold V, 1619-32, kipper gulden or sixty kreuzer of 1621, Hall mint. Very rare, especially in this condition, Extremely Fine.)"

Kipper sixty kreuzer were struck at Brünn, Olmütz and Hall for the Hapsburg archduke Leopold V. Altho nominally a five-sixths thaler or gulden, it is too light and is probably debased as well, being an inflationary issue (1620-24) of the Thirty Years War, along with six, 15, 24, 30, 48, 60, 75, 120, 150 and 300 groschen. Once the kipper period was over, there was a concerted effort to recall and melt down the debased issues, accounting for their rarity today. This type was struck 1621-23 and is very scarce, verging on rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 12.18 g.
