This specimen was issued by the provinces of Asturias and Leon in the northwest of Spain when a coin shortage developed during the Spanish Civil War. This is the most common of the three denominations issued (50 centimos, one peseta and two pesetas).

Recorded mintage: 400,000.

Specification: copper-nickel.
