This specimen was lot 1736 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €280 (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ESPAGNE, Guerre civile (1936-1939), lot de 2 p. de nécessité républicaines: Arenys de Mar, 1 peseta et 50 centimos, s.d. (1937). Unifaces. Superbe. (Spain, Civil War, 1936-39, lot of two undated uniface necessity pieces struck by the republicans at Arenys de Mar: one peseta and fifty centimos. Extremely Fine.)"

Arenys de Mar is a fishing town 40 km northeast of Barcelona. The fifty centimos and one peseta were made in the town during the Spanish Civil War. Catalonia offered the stiffest resistance to the Fascists and suffered devastation as a result. Even today, half a century after Franco's death, separatism remains strong there.
