SB825-45003r.jpg

This specimen was lot 45003 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "ANGUILLA. Anguilla - Panama. Dollar, 1967. PCGS AU-55. A "Liberty Dollar" counterstamped on a 1947 Panama Balboa (KM-13) to support the Anguillan secession movement. RARE host coin type with reported mintage of only 91." A newspaper editor and coin collector in San Francisco fabricated these to raise money for his friends in Anguilla, an island in the Caribbean. He counterstamped a variety of readily available silver coins, including this Panamanian balboa. As they never circulated, Krause has consigned them to Unusual World Coins.

Recorded mintage: 91.

Specification: host coin: 26.73 g, 0.800 fine silver, .773 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 38.1 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-X7.1.
