Afghanistan SH1304 20 pul
This specimen was lot 3603 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Amanullah, 1919-1929, AR 20 pul, SH1304, king's toughra, date below, with two dots above the date // denomination within wreath, XF, RR, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection." Coins of this period are sometimes dated on the traditional Muslim calendar, or on the Solar Hegira calendar, as here, which starts on the same date as the traditional Hegira calendar but uses solar years rather than lunar years. One hundred pul made an afghani. This type was struck SH 1304 and undated.
