Germany 1927-F 5 mark Dav-966
This specimen was lot 4138 in Sincona sale 9 (Zurich, October 2012), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,012 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Weimarer Republik 5 Reichsmark 1927, Stuttgart. Eichbaum. Berieben. Polierte Platte. (Germany, Weimar Republic, five reichsmark of 1927, Stuttgart mint, oak tree. Proof.)"
This type, issued 1927-33, was struck in large numbers in Berlin ("A"), Munich ("D"), Muldenhutten ("E"), Stuttgart ("F", shown here), Karlsrule ("G") and Hamburg ("J"). It is, however, expensive; perhaps they were melted during World War Two. We have included it in our category of thalers based on its size, even tho it is only .500 fine.
Recorded mintage: 700,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 25 g, .500 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.
