Goldberg sale 70, lot 4039

This specimen was lot 4039 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $287.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Germany. 5 Reichsmark, 1927-F. To commemorate the 450th anniversity of the founding of the University of Tubingen. NGC graded About Uncirculated, Details (Surface Hairlines). The Charles Ruby Collection." This type, issued 1927, was struck in Stuttgart ("F") along with a similar three mark. It is expensive; perhaps they were melted during World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 40,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 25 g, 0.500 fine silver, .401 troy oz ASW, 37 mm diameter.
