Künker sale 264, lot 3888

This specimen was part of lot 3888 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), which sold for €360 (about US$465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PREUSSEN Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. 10 Mark 1872 B, 1873, B. 2 Stück., Sehr schön-vorzüglich und vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, ten mark of 1872 and 1873, Hanover mint, two pieces, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type of 1872-73 was struck in large numbers and is common, only the proofs are rare. It was produced at Berlin (mintmark "A"), Hanover (shown here) and Frankfurt (mintmark "C").

Recorded mintage: 2,272,663.

Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold.
