Bavaria 1873-D 10 mark
This specimen was lot 4025 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €220 (about US$297 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, BAYERN, Ludwig II. 1864-1886. 10 Mark 1873. Sehr schön. (unified gold coinage, kingdom of Bavaria, Louis II, 1864-86, ten mark of 1873. Very fine.)"
The ten mark is quite a bit more affordable than the twenty mark. This type was struck 1872-73. It is scarcer than KM 898 (with a modified reverse) but not rare. King Ludwig II ruled until 1886, when he was deposed in favor of his brother. Disliked for his extravagance and his homosexuality, he died soon after under very mysterious circumstances.
Recorded mintage: 1,198,125.
Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold, .115 troy oz AGW.
