Stack's Bowers May 2025 Collectors Choice Online Auction, lot 74586

This specimen was lot 74586 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT. 5 Pounds, AH 1415/1994. Cairo Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo. The Goddess Bastet." This NCLT is among dozens issued by the regime in 1993-94 to honor ancient Egyptian culture. Many of the designs were also used on gold fifty pounds. Wikipedia comments, "Bastet or Bast (Ancient Egyptian: bꜣstt)...is a goddess of ancient Egyptian religion, ...worshipped as early as the Second Dynasty (2890 BC). In ancient Greek religion, she was known as Ailuros (Koinē Greek: αἴλουρος, lit. 'cat')."
