Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71303

This specimen was lot 71303 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 5 Francs, 1810-BB. Strasbourg Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS VF-20. Fairly well circulated yet still wholesome and original, this crown offers a deep level of appealing toning. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Lepczyk in 1984 for $30). Ex: George Sobin Collection (Joseph Lepczyk - 3/1984) Lot # 1317 (part of)." This is a rare date of a type struck 1809-14 at numerous mints. There are five known per Le Franc[2].

Recorded mintage: 28,426[2].

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
