Künker Auction 425, lot 1872

This specimen was lot 1872 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$2,124 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Rudolf II., 1576-1612. Reichstaler 1602, Hall. Seltener Jahrgang. Prachtexemplar mit feiner Tönung. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1602, Hall mint. Rare date, cabinet example with fine toning, extremely fine.)"

This particular type is listed for 1602-05 and closely related types with the portrait of Rudolf II were struck at Hall, Vienna and Graz until his death in 1612. Hall was also a prolific producer of minor coinage. Other thalers of 1602 include KM 23/Dav-3307, KM 24/Dav-3314 (Klagenfurt), KM 36/Dav-3310A, KM MB255/Dav-3023 (Kuttenberg).
