Austria 1851-A kreuzer
This specimen was lot 74167 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Kreuzer, 1851-A. Vienna Mint. Franz Joseph I. PCGS MS-65 Brown. A pleasing Gem, this beautiful minor yields strong details and a soft glittery chocolate brown appeal." This type was struck at several mints (1851-A, B, E, G), The mintage from Vienna is not known but 106,458,000 are recorded from Kremnitz (B). We speculate that this was struck over several years with a frozen date. One convention thaler was 120 kreuzer.
