Prussia 1768-B thaler Dav-2586
This specimen was lot 3492 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,845 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1768, B, Breslau. Berliner Typ. Auf der rechten Seite der Waffengruppe 4 Spitzen. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Winter 56, Düsseldorf 1989, Nr. 161. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1768, Breslau mint, Berlin type. The right weapons group has four points. Scarce in this quality, extremely fine.)"
This "reichs thaler" was struck at Berlin, Breslau, Konigsberg, Magdeburg and Aurich 1764-74. Breslau is the most common mint after Berlin. Spent rather than hoarded, these thalers normally come heavily worn.
