Bohemia 1717 thaler Dav-1074
This specimen was lot 4295 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Karl VI. 1711-1740 Taler 1717. Prag Ausbeute der Grube St. Joachimsthal. Ohne Münzmeisterzeichen. Äusserst seltene Erhaltung, Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Fast FDC. Winzigste Schrötlingsfehler durch die Walzenprägung. In einer Prager Auktion in 2015 wurde so ein Stück als versteigert. Wir sind der Meinung unser Exemplar ist schöner. (Holy Roman Empire, Charles VI, 1711-40, thaler of 1717, Prague mint, for the St. Joachimsthal mines, without mintmaster's initials. Extremely rare conditon. Cabinet piece. About uncirculated, with a few minor flaws from the roller dies. An auction in Prague in 2015 claimed to have the finest known piece but we think this one is better.)"
Mining thalers, tho common in other parts of Germany, were not frequently issued in the Hapsburg dominions. This issue of 1717-18 is quite rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 29.01 g.
