Spain 1624-S D 8 reales
This specimen was lot 1416 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Seville, cob 8 reales, Philip IV, 1624 D, NGC VF 25, finest and only example in NGC census. Dramatically double-struck interiors with clear details visible at 45-degree angle to main strike, including 100% full cross-lions-castles and choice full shield, the crown nearly full as well as S-D to left, also with bold full 24 of date above cross (rare thus), attractively toned all over." This type is listed for 1622-38 and 1641-63. Similar cobs were struck at Toledo and Madrid.
