This coin was minted in Lima, Peru, in 1756. This specimen was lot 12417 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Escudos, 1756-JM. NGC AU-58. Ferdinand VI (1746-60). Sharply struck, flashy mint luster and very attractive." This type was struck in the name of Ferdinand VI 1757-60 and is rare. It was superseded by a type (KM 59.2) struck 1757-60 with a slightly different bust.
