Zurich 1641 ducat Fr-458
This specimen was lot 4526 in Sincona sale 73 (Zürich, November 2021), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$6,111 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Zurich | Stadt und Kanton. Dukat 1641, Zürich. Zwei Löwen halten ein kl. ovales Wappen und darüber einen Lorbeerkranz. Rv. Geschlossener Kranz aus Palm- und Lorbeerzweigen, darin 5 Zeilen Schrift. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zurich, ducat of 1641, Zürich mint. Obverse: two lions support small oval arms, laurel wreath above; reverse: five line inscription inside a palm and laurel branch. Rare, About extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1641 and 1643. It accompanied a half ducat (Fr-465), a double ducat (Fr-457), a triple ducat and a quadruple ducat (Fr-455a).
