Sincona sale 90, lot 1530

This specimen was lot 1530 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL Königreich, João V. 1706-1750. Escudo 1726, Lissabon. Sehr schön. (kingdom of Portugal, John V, 1706-50, escudo of 1726, Lisbon mint. Very fine.)"

This type is catalogued in the SCWC as a one escudo even tho it is about 6% heavier than a Spanish escudo. This subtype was struck 1723-31 and is scarcer than the catalog suggests.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.57 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.51 g.

Catalog reference: KM 219, Gomes 117.05, Fr-90.
