This specimen was lot 24815 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 2 Escudos (Meia Peca) 1725, XF with light adjustment marks on the shield and a moderate rim nick visible on the reverse at two o'clock but good details and attractive. Very scarce type which is seldom seen in presentable grades." This type was struck in Lisbon 1723-42 and is often catalogued as a two escudos even tho it contained about 10% more gold. This denomination was last issued in 1821 during the reign of João VI.
