This specimen was lot 21721 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $23,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 8 Escudos (Dobra) 1724, XF, first year of issue of João V Dobras, skillfully repaired on the top rim, otherwise lightly toned, lustrous and very attractive. Extremely rare date, unpriced in the SCWC." This type is catalogued in the SCWC as an eight escudos even tho it is about 6% heavier than a Spanish eight escudos. It was struck in Lisbon 1724-32 and all dates are rare.
