Sincona sale 86, lot 1783
Sincona sale 86, lot 1787

The first specimen was lot 1783 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,693 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. Proof 5 Pounds 2008, Royal Mint Llantrisant. Gold. Celebrating the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I. NGC PF69 ULTRA CAMEO. With original box."

The second specimen was lot 1787 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,500 CHF (about US$3,367 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. Proof 5 Pounds 2008, Royal Mint Llantrisant. 94.24 g. Piédfort in platinum. Celebrating the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I. APW total: 94.19 g. Nur 125 Stück geprägt, Mit Originaletui Only 125 Pieces struck. NGC PF67 ULTRA CAMEO. With original box."

Other five pound coins for 2008 included KM 1003 (St. George and the dragon) and KM 1103 (prnce Charles's 60th birthday).

Recorded mintage: 500,000 plus proofs in copper-nickel plus 7,446 in silver plus unknown in gold plus 125 in platinum.

Specification: copper-nickel, 38.6 mm diameter or 28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver or 39.97 g, 0.917 fine gold. The first specimen 39.96 g.
